Magic Uploader Xtreme setup

Four steps to get your Magic Uploader Xtreme uploading your CPAP data on its own, every night, with nothing to press.

Before you start

What you need

The box holds the Magic Uploader Xtreme and a USB-C cable. Two of the four things below are yours to supply, so it is worth having them to hand before you take your CPAP machine apart.

Your Magic Uploader Xtreme and the USB-C cable it comes with.
A USB power source to plug that cable into — the Magic Uploader Xtreme does not come with one.
An SD card for your CPAP machine. There is none in the box either, so if your machine already has one in it, that is the card to use.
Your phone or tablet, to run the SleepHQ app.

Setting it up

Four steps, once

Install the SleepHQ app
The setup runs in the SleepHQ app on your phone or tablet, so start there. Sign in once it is installed, or create a free account if you do not have one yet.

Plug the uploader in
Connect the USB-C cable to your Magic Uploader and plug the other end into a USB power source. Leave the uploader out of your CPAP machine for now. The light on the Magic Uploader flashes green quickly while it starts up, then settles into a slow blue flash — slow blue means it is waiting to be set up.
Set it up in the app
In the SleepHQ app, tap More, then Devices & Accessories, then the Connect a Magic Uploader v4 tile. The app finds your uploader over Bluetooth, then lists the Wi-Fi networks it can see. Choose yours, type in its password and tap Connect. The app configures the uploader from there and tells you when setup is complete. The light goes solid green, then starts flashing green slowly, because there is no SD card in it yet — that is step 4.
If your network is hidden and is not in the list, tap Other Network… and type its name in yourself. If the app says setup failed, tap Try Again and re-enter the password — Wi-Fi passwords are case sensitive, and a wrong one is by far the most common reason this step does not work.
Put your SD card in, and put the machine back together
Unplug the uploader, then slot your SD card into it — if your CPAP machine already has a card in it, take that one out and use it. Fit the Magic Uploader into the machine where the card goes, put the cover back on and plug the uploader in again.
That is the last thing you have to do. From then on it uploads your data by itself, overnight, with nothing to press and no card to carry to a computer.

The lights

What the lights mean

The Magic Uploader Xtreme has two lights: one for the uploader and one for its network connection.

The Magic Uploader light

How the uploader itself is getting on.

Flashing green, quickly: Starting up. It does this for a few seconds every time it is powered on.
Flashing blue, slowly: Waiting to be set up from the SleepHQ app. This is step 3 above.
Alternating blue and red: Setup did not finish. The uploader goes back to waiting to be set up, so run step 3 again — and check the Wi-Fi password, which is case sensitive.
Flashing green, slowly: Waiting for an SD card. This is the light between steps 3 and 4, and again afterwards if the card is not pushed all the way in.
Solid green: Set up and working. It goes solid green when setup finishes in step 3, and again once the SD card is in.

The network light

Whether it can reach SleepHQ.

Flashing green: Joining your Wi-Fi network.
Solid green: Connected to your Wi-Fi network.
Flashing red: Not connected to your Wi-Fi — it has either not joined yet, or it can no longer get on. If it was working before, your Wi-Fi name or password has most likely changed, so run step 3 again.

Two things that are not faults

Both lights are deliberately dim. They are meant to be readable in a dark bedroom rather than to light one, so in daylight you may have to look straight at them.

On machines that write to the card as you sleep — ResMed’s do — both lights also go dark while a therapy session is running, and come back on when it ends. Löwenstein and Philips machines only save at the end of the session, so on those the lights stay on all night. That is not a fault either: turn on Sleep Mode, on the uploader’s own page in SleepHQ, and the lights stay off the whole time the uploader is in your machine.
